CFE Successfully Deploys 1MWh Grid-Forming Hybrid Energy Storage Project in Malaysia

CFE has officially completed the commissioning and continuous load operation of a 1MWh grid-forming off-grid C&I energy storage project in Malaysia, marking a major milestone in Southeast Asia’s transition toward cleaner and more reliable distributed energy systems.

The project integrates photovoltaic generation, diesel generators, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and on-site loads into a fully coordinated off-grid microgrid architecture. Built around CFE’s advanced CFE-125H2-PV-STS commercial and industrial energy storage system, the solution adopts a four-unit parallel grid-forming configuration capable of stable long-term autonomous operation under complex load conditions.

According to the project operator, the system has now completed continuous grid-forming load operation and has demonstrated excellent stability, dynamic response capability, and fuel-saving performance since commissioning.

A Milestone for Malaysia’s Energy Transition

This project is recognized as Malaysia’s first MWh-level grid-forming hybrid microgrid combining solar power, battery storage, and diesel generation in a fully off-grid scenario. The successful deployment represents an important breakthrough for large-scale off-grid energy applications in remote industrial and commercial environments.

The project has received strong recognition from the local utility company as well as regional community leaders, including local Datuk representatives, for its contribution to energy resilience, fuel reduction, and sustainable infrastructure development.

As diesel prices continue to rise globally, many industrial operators across Southeast Asia are facing increasing pressure from fuel costs and unstable energy supply. The successful operation of this project demonstrates how advanced energy storage technology can significantly reduce diesel dependency while improving system reliability and operational efficiency.

Diesel Consumption Reduced by 88.89%

Before the system was deployed, the site consumed approximately 27,000 liters of diesel fuel per month to maintain stable power supply.

After one month of operation with the CFE hybrid microgrid system, monthly diesel consumption dropped to approximately 3,000 liters, representing a diesel reduction rate of 88.89%.

The significant reduction in fuel usage has dramatically lowered operating expenses for the customer while also reducing carbon emissions and generator runtime.

Based on current fuel prices and operating conditions, the project is expected to achieve a return on investment (ROI) in less than 18 months, making it not only a technical milestone, but also a highly attractive commercial energy solution.

Advanced Grid-Forming Technology for Off-Grid Applications

Unlike traditional energy storage systems that rely on external grid support, grid-forming energy storage systems can independently establish voltage and frequency references, enabling stable operation even in completely off-grid environments.

The CFE-125H2-PV-STS system used in this project supports:

  • Grid-forming off-grid operation
  • Multi-unit parallel connection
  • Dynamic load response
  • Diesel generator coordination
  • Renewable energy integration
  • Intelligent energy management
  • Stable operation under fluctuating loads

By combining solar generation, battery storage, and diesel generators into a unified intelligent control platform, the project delivers reliable 24/7 power while minimizing fuel consumption and maximizing renewable energy utilization.

CFE Accelerates Global Hybrid Energy Storage Deployment

As a company focused on advanced lithium-ion power and energy storage solutions, CFE continues to expand its presence in global commercial and industrial energy storage markets.

With more than 24 years of engineering and project delivery experience across its core product lines, CFE provides integrated solutions covering energy storage system design, manufacturing, commissioning, and technical services.

The successful implementation of this Malaysia project further demonstrates CFE’s capability in large-scale hybrid microgrid applications, especially in regions where grid infrastructure is limited or diesel power generation remains the primary energy source.

Looking ahead, CFE will continue promoting high-efficiency, low-carbon, and intelligent energy storage solutions to support the global transition toward cleaner and more sustainable energy systems.
